A Week of Mondays by Jessica Brody | Book Review

Book Review:
A Week of Mondays by Jessica Brody

Spoilers?
Maybe.

Title - A Week of Mondays
By - Jessica Brody
Publication - August 2nd 2016 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
Format - Hardcover, 464 pages
Genre - Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

When I made the wish, I just wanted a do-over. Another chance to make things right. I never, in a million years, thought it might actually come true...

Sixteen-year-old Ellison Sparks is having a serious case of the Mondays. She gets a ticket for running a red light, she manages to take the world’s worst school picture, she bombs softball try-outs and her class election speech (note to self: never trust a cheerleader when she swears there are no nuts in her bake-sale banana bread), and to top it all off, Tristan, her gorgeous rocker boyfriend suddenly dumps her. For no good reason!

As far as Mondays go, it doesn’t get much worse than this. And Ellie is positive that if she could just do it all over again, she would get it right. So when she wakes up the next morning to find she’s reliving the exact same day, she knows what she has to do: stop her boyfriend from breaking up with her. But it seems no matter how many do-overs she gets or how hard Ellie tries to repair her relationship, Tristan always seems bent set on ending it. Will Ellie ever figure out how to fix this broken day? Or will she be stuck in this nightmare of a Monday forever?

The Cover:
(Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.)
The cover of this book is everything. Its adorable and it hints at what's in the story. I adore the photo thing where you could see that she is different but he is the same each time. I love it.

The Story:
This was such a good story. I adored the characters and the settings. It was such a good read that I really do think I'll read it again someday and be able to love it just as much. And it's cool because I rarely feel that way.

Relationships:
There weren't that many couples in this book but the ones that were established I appreciated them.

Ellie x Tristan
From the first time they were both in  a scene together I could tell exactly what was going to happen. And that didn't stop me from finding out for myself if my theory was right or not. A the story progresses we get glimpses of how they meet and oe they clicked since that day. But we also see how Ellie was struggling to be who she thought he wanted to be with. She believed that with him being in a band and being Mr. Popular that she had to be at his level all the time and we see that that wasn't what he wanted. He just wanted her to be herself but when we find that out it's already the end and too late.

Ellie x Owen
They are awesome.
They both like the same music and tv shows and they've known each other since they were kids. Its pretty inevitable that hy end up together but unlike most other stories that end that way this one I lied a lot. I adored the way that Owen always believed in Ellie on how she's repeating the days. I like how he cares for her and worried when he saw her spiraling down the rabbit hole of bad Mondays.

Family Dynamics:
As for Ellie’s family.
I liked the story of Ellie’s family. How their parents fought because dad forgot their anniversary and their little sis trying to fit in by following what happens in highschool movies. Especially The Breakfast Club. Which made her my favorite character of all time.
They were real and I like it when families in YA are real, and not the ideal of what a family should be like.

Settings:
Not many settings in this story. There was the school, Ellie’s house, the carnival(??) and Ellie’s car was a setting in a way.
Out of all those places I have to say that I liked the all. I just wish there were more descriptions of the surroundings. Like for having repeated 7 Mondays in the same school, and carnival and even her house there weren't that many details of what they looked like. And if there were I just don't remember them much.

Overall:
I loved everything about this book. Yes, there were boring bits but there's always going to be boring bit here and there. It's just that in this book I didn't mind the boring bits. THose were just the learning bit for Ellie and I wanted to be there with her for every one of them. Cheering her on with awesome music playing in the background. I think we would have been great friends and I would have believed her if she told me she was repeating the same day over and over again.

There were parts where I just wished she would have stopped for a while and saw that there were other ting coming up to the surface and not just scheme up a plan to make Tristan stay with her. Ike her parents fighting and her sis being sad or even her best friend, Owen, being distant on some Mondays. I’m glad that in the end she got it straight, though.

I never really hated Tristan. I just thought he wasn't for Ellie. During the whole thing it was like he was on another world and no in the one Ellie was on. We didn't even find you much about him besides that he’s in a band and is popular and that his previous girlfriends don't last long.
I mean I knew someone like that but I think I knew more about that guy than Ellie knew about Tristan, and I barely knew him.

And Owen. Oh, Owen!
How I wish there was more to him than what was in the book. I wanted so much re of him and by the synopsis I expected him to be one of the main characters and him being her only friend. But we only got bits of him. Though those bits were cute.

Ellie is such a good character in parts. Because she went all out with each Monday. How she went through each day with a different attitude and look. That was awesome.
I also adored her because of her great, fantastic taste in awesome music. I adored listening to each song she suggested.

Think I should also mention that while I was reading this book I added the chapter titles in a playlist and would listen to it while I read. It was an awesome playlist and worked perfectly with each chapter even if they got out of order.

Stacking The Shelves - 4

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews where bloggers share what books they got throughout the week!

Reviewed:

Last week I didn't do one of these, because I had nothing to talk about but this week I do. I not only wrote the reviews of two books but I finished one two.
I had read The New Guy (And Other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding. But I hadn't written the review until a few days ago.

As for Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell. I also wrote the review to this.

As For Update:

I stopped reading All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, and in turn tried to read through We Are Still Tornadoes by Michael Kun & Susan Mullen. Im halfway through it and hope to finish it soon. I have to say that I really like the way it was written. It's fun and easy to read through. I would have finished it by now if it wasn't for my english project that is due on monday.
As for A Week of Monday by Jessica Brody. I actually finished it when I wrote this (which is on Thursday) and I will write a review for this book as well.
Hint: I really, really liked it.

Halloween Decorations Haul

Hi ya'll!
Earlier this month I had bought a ton of Halloween stuff that were on sale at my local walgreens. I wanted to show what I got but completely forgot to do so. Now that I have some time off, though I should be doing a project that I have to give tomorrow and haven't even started it.

I got 7 funko pops, 1 Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas snow globe, 4 Beanie Baby spiders,  purple lights, 2 Tsum Tsum, and a Nightmare Before Christmas set.

I got the first funko pop, Jack, for $1.99 and the rest for 99 cents each. I thought I'd never own one but with this huge sale I could finally own some. And the tsum tsum plushies were 99 cents too The tiny tsum tsum were $1.69 and they are just too cute. I didn't get much candy this year but its because people just took them all and only left the candy corn bags behind. Which was sad but what can I do.
The reson why I wrote this was because I never get to buy any decorations or stuff like that and this year I finally could and I'm so happy I could. Next year I'll have cute things on my bookshelves

The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding | Book Review

Book Review:
The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding

Spoilers?
Yes!

Title - The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions)
By - Amy Spalding
Publication - April 5th 2016 by Poppy
Format - Hardcover, 320 pages
Genre - Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

A ridiculously cute, formerly-famous new guy dropping into your life? It's practically every girl's dream.

But not Jules McCallister-Morgan's.

I realize that on paper I look like your standard type-A, neurotic, overachiever. And maybe I am. But I didn't get to be the editor of my school's long-revered newspaper by just showing up*. I have one main goal for my senior year-early acceptance into my first choice Ivy League college-and I will not be deterred by best friends, moms who think I could stand to "live a little," or boys.

At least, that was the plan before I knew about Alex Powell**.

And before Alex Powell betrayed me***.

I know what you're thinking: Calm down, Jules. But you don't understand. This stuff matters. This is my life. And I'm not going down without a fight.

----

* Okay, I sort of did. But it's a sore subject.

** I mean, I guess everyone knows about Alex Powell? Two years ago, you couldn't go anywhere without hearing about viral video boy band sensation Chaos 4 All. Two years ago, Alex Powell was famous.

***Some people think I'm overreacting. But this. Means. War.

Filled with romance, rivalry, and passive-aggressive dog walking, Amy Spalding delivers a hilariously relatable high school story that's sure to have you falling for The New Guy.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
Yes, this cover has yet another blond on it but I’m kinda digging the look. Having both Jules and Alex on the cover was cute.

The Story:
I did think that this book good, but boring in parts and I felt like quitting it a few times just for a while but I didn't quit and ended up finishing it without realizing I had finished it. The ending wasn't what I thought it would be. I  liked that the Crest and TALON joined forces and I think they should have done that a long time ago but Jules was very stubborn.

I was happy that the characters were unique and they all had lives besides the main characters. Like Jule’s moms were both hardworking women, and her friends also had their stories.

Relationships:
This book had many relationships. But I'm just going to talk about the main couple and Jules’ friends.

Jules x Alex
From the beginning I thought hey were so cute but that they were going to break up. They barely knew each other and I don't think Jules ever meet his mother. Even though he meant for them to  meet at one point. After they broke up I knew they were going to get together but I also knew it wasn't going to be easy.

So much about them was cute. They both liked the dogs in the refugee and liked to walk them. He got along with her friends easily and tried to get back together with  her but she  was so involved with the paper that she just didn't see it or even give him a chance to tell her what was going through his mind.

Jules and her friends
I adored her friends but I think that she also ignored them at times. That she could have relied on them for help and just to listen to what's going on with her. Even with Jules being so focused on the paper her friends were always there trying to help her and cheer her up.

Family Dynamics:
As for Jules’ family.
I thought that they were so close and loving. Like Jules’ moms were communicative loving and respected each other as well as their daughter. I like that this is the first book I have read with two same sex parents and I was rod of the way that they were portrayed. As humans as two people who loved and cared for eachother and loved their daughter with all their hearts.

The dogs were adorable. They always ran to Jules, or on occasions to Alex when he visited. When ever they were in the scene I was happy.

Settings:
There weren't that many settings that I liked in this book. But there was one that called out to me, and that was the school. I felt that when there were scenes in the school I could totally picture it in my head. And I don't know if it's the fact that I have seen lot of movies where the settings are in the school. Like most Disney movies and stuff. But I just felt there were either lacking details where the settings were concerned, or that they didn't much jump out at me. Still I very much liked the school.

Overall:
I liked this story a lot. It Jules reminded me so much or Rory Gilmore from the Gilmore Girls. With how determined she was and how smart she was. Still at some points I did want to just shake her and tell her that she doesn't have to obsess so much and that she doesn't have to resort to keeping secrets and backstabbing the boy she supposedly loves.

I also liked that there wasn't a love triangle in this story. I’m mentioning it because usually when coues in stories break up they always add another person of interest to cause drama and necessary conflict. I liked that this author do that.

I liked the Crest or at least the people behind it. They were determined and brave and smart people behind that and they all contributed to it in a good way. Though  also liked TALON and thought they did a great job including the other students in the school. It was great that they settled their differences and worked together in the end. Though as I said before they should have done that like halfway into the story.

Jules and Alex’s relationship was a bit complicated and I thought the whole “lets have sex” storyline was unnecessary. It felt like -I don't know. Like it just would have been okay without that. They had barely been back together for more than a few days before talking about having sex and that was just a bit weird. I get that they were way happy to be back together but just -meh.

I feel like I’m writing too much so I’ll stop here.

Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell | Book Review

Book Review:
Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell

Spoilers?
Yes, Kinda.

Title - Kindred Spirits By - Rainbow Rowell
Publication - February 25th 2016 by Macmillans Kids UK
Format - Mass Market Paperback, 96 pages
Genre - Young Adult, Contemporary, Short Story

'Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.'
'Are you mad because other people like Star Wars? Are you mad because people like me like Star Wars?'
'Maybe.'

If you broke Elena's heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she's expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she's not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels. Kindred Spirits is an engaging short story by Rainbow Rowell, author of the bestselling Eleanor & Park, Fangirl and Carry On, and is part of a handful of selected short reads specially produced for World Book Day.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
The cover is simple, lovely, and bright. I love the font and I love the colors.

The Story:
This is a 96 page book with just a handful of characters and only two settings. But even with those conditions it ended up being a great story. Perfect for Star Wars fans, or even fangirls in general.

Relationships:
This book didn't have that many characters so it didn't have that many relationships. But out of the ones it did have I did like Elena and Gabe's relationship.

Elena x Gabe
Even if at first Elena couldn't feel comfortable around Gabe she grew to like him. And although the story doesn't allude to there being an official romance between them, even at the end, I quite like them as a couple. And I hope we could see them again, even if it's a small part, in the future.

Family Dynamics:
As for Elena's family.
I think that it's sad that she shared something so beautiful with her father only for him to walkout on her and her mother. I feel that with that bit I sort of related wit her. Like my dad was only in my life when I was little and for short bits but I do remember the first movie I can remember seeing was with him in the town's theater and it was A Bugs Life. So many years have past since I last saw my dad but I still like that memory.
Her mother was cool too. She worried about her daughter and she watched over her while at the same time giving her some space. Which is admirable. Not that many parents care where their kids are most of the time.

Overall:
I enjoyed every page of this book. I'm not lying.
I don't know if it's the fact that I had just finished Santorini Sunset and it's so much different than this book. Or the fact that it was late at night and I had just finished two books, not having finished one in months but I was way happy and way proud of myself for finishing this right after I had read Santorini Sunset.

PS: I did a review for Santorini Sunset by Anita Hughes in the past.

Santorini Sunsets by Anita Hughes | Book Review

Book Review:
Santorini Sunsets by Anita Hughes

Spoilers?
Yes!

Title - Santorini Sunsets By - Anita Hughes
Publication - August 2nd 2016 by St. Martin's Griffin
Format - Paperback, 304 pages
Genre - Chick Lit, Romance

The seventh intoxicating love story by Anita Hughes, set in beautiful Santorini, Greece. When a Hollywood superstar and a NYC society girl fall in love, sparks fly and secrets are revealed.
Brigit Palmer is thrilled to be on the Greek Island of Santorini. She's here for her wedding to Hollywood heart-throb Blake Crawford, one of America's most eligible bachelors. Brigit's parents have rented a villa, and soon guests will arrive from all over the world for the intimate ceremony.
Brigit is a New York socialite, and she's just given up her position at a Manhattan law firm to run her father's philanthropic foundation. Things are finally falling into place. Love, career, family. Everything is going so well...until she steps into the garden and sees her ex-husband Nathaniel hiding in the rose bushes.
Nathaniel, a failed novelist, announces that Blake sold the rights to the wedding to HELLO! Magazine for two million dollars (donated to charity), and he is the reporter assigned to write the story. Everyone expects Brigit to have her happily ever after, including her mother who taught her how to lead the perfect lifestyle, her younger sister Daisy who impatiently wishes for her own love story, and of course, her fiancé. Things are supposed to work out for them. But when Brigit discovers an unsettling secret about Blake, she questions everything she's ever believed about love, and wonders if she's better off alone.
Told in Anita Hughes' spectacularly descriptive prose, SANTORINI SUNSETS is a story about family bonds, first loves, and the question of when to let go and when to hang on as tight as you can.

The Rating :

My Review:

My review in a gif. Which equals 3 stars.
Okay. I feel like I have to give my reason for this gif. And its that there were some dramatic moments when I was just sitting there being like "I knew this was going to happen". So it makes sense.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
This cover is very pretty with the gradient in the background and the hills of Santorini but the model made it creepy. She looked like she was possessed or something. I don't know, I guess I would have preferred her to hut be standing there looking at the sunset instead of posing like she was at a high fashion photography session.

The Story:
I did not relate to this story many of the characters. Not one bit.
Truthfully, I just thought that it was too pretentious. All the characters were rich or knew what it was like, or they were famous actors and that is unknown to me.So when in the story they would mention brand names, or other places I was reading and being totally clueless which made me hate the story. But of course I did like some things about this book.

Relationships:
This book had a bunch of relationships both in family and in couples.

Bridgit X Blake.
I knew from the beginning that their relationship was either not going to end up in marriage or they were going to end up resenting each other or something similar. I could tell that they did like each other but in a surface kind or way.I mean, that they didn't really know each other. She only ever said when someone asked that he was a smart, handsome and charitable man. She never said that he liked certain things, or hated certain things. She probably didn't know if he was allergic to anything. And he didn't know anything about her either. For him he loved her because she was beautiful blond with blue eyes that was smart and belonged to the “New York Society”. Whatever that means.

Brigit x Nathaniel
They knew each other since they were kinds, that alone makes them a better match than her and Blake. They shared history, they knew what the other liked or hated. And yes they did get married and then divorce but it was because they were too young when they got married. They needed to learn and grow up in order to understand the other. And they did and they still loved each other in the end.

Daisy x Robbie
They were the only coupe I actually rooted for during the entire story. I wanted them to be together and be happy. Daisy is such an amazing person but she's too concerned with being an equal to Brigit, who was an attorney and about to marry an famous, handsome actor. She was talented and creative in many ways that made her and Robbie perfect for each other. He was a photographer and she was a pastry chef turned fashion designer.

Family Dynamics:
As for Bridgit and Daisie’s parents, Sydney and Francis
They had their issues which were the lack of communication. After years of marriage they forgot that if they didn't say the important things than the other might feel alienated or even not loved. And that is what happened to them. Not to mention the affair Sydney had and Francic always being at work, or traveling and him not telling her that they might lose the house they had in Summerhill. All of that created a time bomb but they talked and worked it out.

Settings:
This book was filled with descriptions of Santorini and other settings. Making it easy to picture the scenery and the flowers. It was beautifully described and it made me want to be there. See the flowers and the blue waters, the architecture and especially eat the food.

Overall:
I enjoyed reading this book . The way it was written was beautiful. Full of descriptions of the settings and the people and it was a quick read for me. I think I would have finished it much sooner if it was not or the loads homework I had to do this past two weeks. The last 100 and a half pages I read in two sittings. I had made a rule of giving myself an hour to read whenever I wasn't doing anything and it helped a lot.

The only thing I didn't like about this story was, like I mentioned earlier in this review, that I did not find myself feeling attached tote characters. I actually came to dislike them at times. Whenever they talked about money and clothes and they many houses they owned I just felt horrible. But I guess the whole point of this book is to be an easy beach read and to make you fantasize of being in these characters shoes. It's just that for me, personally,  it didn't do that.

A to will I re-read this book again?
Probably, probably not. I don't know I guess it depends on my mood or whether it's been a long time since I first read it.

Will I read other books by Anita Hughes?
Definitely. I loved her writing and the way she made the paces and the character come to life.

The Rating :

My Review:

My review in a gif. Which equals 4 stars.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
With this cover it’s easy to love it and just buy it because it's beautiful. Well, that and the fact that's it's by a group of very talented writers. You could also see the couples of each short story skating in the frozen lake.

The Short Stories:
I prefer to do separate reviews of each short story then an overall review.

"Midnights" by Rainbow Rowell > 5 stars.
I was so in love with Midnights that I legit cried more than once. I identified so much with the main character without knowing it. It was so fluffy and adorable.

"The Lady and the Fox" by Kelly Link > 2 stars.
Although I did like this story I found it hard to finish and it was confusing  in some parts. And after reading Midnights which was really good it just didn't fit.

"Angels in the Snow" by Matt de la Peña > 4 stars.
I really liked it! it was so adorable and there were kitties and the guys name was Shy. I enjoyed this story.

"It's a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown" by Stephanie Perkins > 5 stars
One of my favorites from this book. I adored the connection the characters had. Loved their names, Marigold and North. Beautiful!

"Polaris is where you'll find me" by Jenny Han > 5 stars
I really, really loved this one. I kinda want this to be a book on its own with more to it.

"Your Temporary Santa" by David Levithan > 3 stars
It was cute and I could tell they really liked each other but for some reason I didn't quite like it. There were parts that just didn't get to me like they should have, I don't know.

"Krampuslauf" by Holly Black > 3.5 stars
Very interesting but I got lost a few times and the ending confused me. Still it was fun to read.

"What the Hell Have You Done, Sophie Roth?" by Gayle Forman >  2 stars
I couldn't connect with the characters. The writing was beautiful, but I just didn't like Sophie.

"Beer Buckets and Baby Jesus" by Myra Mcentire > 4.5 stars
I love this story! It was so cute and funny. The characters were adorable. It felt like something that I would gladly watch on tv or something similar.

"Welcome to Christmas, CA" by Kiersten White > 4 stars
Just like Beer Buckets and Baby Jesus this one felt like it could be a movie, but this one gave me a Hallmark movie type of feel. The guy was perfect partly because he could make good food.

"Star of Bethlehem" by Ally Carter > 4 stars
I wish this story was longer because I actually liked it. It was heart warming and the family in this was loving. I liked this one too.

"The Girl Who Woke the Dreamer" by Laini Taylor > 3 stars.
This one kinda didn't fit in with the others but I liked it. It was a bit weird in someparts but yeah. It was magical and the ending was something different. Okay, so I'm still confused about the whole thing.

Overall Review:

It was a fun book to read. I took my time reading each story. Like some took me longer than others but with homework and stuff it made sense. The cover was adorable depicting all the couples skating.I loved it.

I would like to say that my favorite stories were:
"Midnights" by Rainbow Rowell
"It's a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown" by Stephanie Perkins
"Polaris is where you'll find me" by Jenny Han
"Star of Bethlehem" by Ally Carter
"Welcome to Christmas, CA" by Kiersten White
