Genre - Animal, Fiction, Thriller

When Cody, a troubled fourteen-year-old, witnesses a murder, she tells no one. But it begins a spiral for her from which she cannot escape. Her worried mother Skye thinks a change of scene is just what her introverted, withdrawn daughter needs and since her dream has always been to own an inn, she jumps at the chance to buy a dilapidated bed & breakfast in the Berkshires. But being an innkeeper is harder than it seems and Cody still seems to fall in with the wrong crowd. When Adam March arrives as the inn’s only guest, he is accompanied by his rescued pit bull, Chance, a dog who has saved Adam in more ways than one. Cody and Chance begin a wary bond and soon, Adam finds another rescue who needs the kind of attention he gave Chance years ago. With Adam and Skye beginning a tentative relationship and Chance showing Cody how to trust again, this new-found family seems to be on the brink of second chances. But soon, a murderer is closing in—someone hiding in plain sight, and threatening everything and everyone—even Cody’s life.

I want to say that this was sent to me for review from publisher and that, as all my reviews, this one is full of my honest opinions.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
Beautiful cover with a lake and the sky with clouds around the title font. It's just perfection in a book cover form. And Chance and Lucky (Dawg) on there is so adorable.

The Story:

Cody is a young teen and with that comes a lot of stuff but since it's in a book it's more cliches and tropes. But with Cody, it was just a few cliches. There were drugs, bullying, bad decisions, and insecurities. And it was done so nicely. Though with some of Cody's decisions I which she was smarter. And some of them didn't get resolved or touched on perfectly. Which is both unsatisfying and realistic. We don't always resolve the bad decisions or the dumb actions we do in life.
Then there was Skye, Cody's mother, who took her small family of her and her daughter to a whole new place and bought and managed a hotel that was in good need of some repairs. And how she tries desperately to understand her daughter and how rebellious she has been lately.
And Adam a character that was in the first book in the series, One Good Dog. And together with his dog Chance, he goes to the Lake View Hotel. Something about the place makes him stay again and again and I think ist because he feels more at home there than his own home and I can understand that feeling so much.

Relationships:

There weren't any relationships in this book that was official. But I will talk about some of the human/dog relationships.

Adam x Chance

So I don't know much about what happened to these two before because I did not read the first book. But you can easily tell that they share a bond and that they care about each other so much. Chance id Adams therapy dog

Family Dynamics:

As for Cody’s family.
It stats after they had moved into the hotel her mother now owns and manages and how Cody is being rebellious without reason. From getting herself into detention to not helping out with cleaning the rooms like her mother asked her to. And there's obviously something going on but she doesn't what to say. Skye tried so hard to understand her daughter but Cody just didn't want to let her mother in on what ever was go

Settings:

The Lake View Hotel was the only place that was really interesting. I've never heard of a hotel that allows dogs and accommodates to them. It's so cool and I would love to go there if it were real.

Overall:

I loved reading this book. Though it was a bit slow.
The story went trough the lives of Adam March and Chance the dog, Cody and Skye and Mingo and Dawg the dog. And even though there were multiple points of views and narrators I dd not feel like they blended together. At least for me, they didn't.

The dogs were adorable. And the most perfect characters. They were loyal and smart and that was so sweet.

I enjoyed reading this book so much that I wouldn't totally hate the idea of picking up another book by Susan Wilson.

I had finished reading this book as a part of the readathon the book tubers from Heart Full of Books did, called Reading Double. Where you have to choose two of something and read them. I did two of the same color. And I had so much fun challenging myself to read faster. And I may do that again.

What I said on GoodReads:
For me, this is more like 4.5 stars out of 5.
While I did enjoy reading this book there were parts that I felt were too slow. After I finished reading it I would have loved if it were a shorter book. But the author Susan Wilson's writing was perfect. Everything made sense and even with the multiple narrators I never got confused.

The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg

Spoilers?
I don't think so.

This book was sent to me from NetGalley.com and the publishing company in exchange for an honest review.
Title - The Story of Arthur Truluv
By - Elizabeth Berg
Publication - July 25th 2017 by Random House

Genre - Fiction

A beautiful, life-affirming novel about a remarkably loving man who creates for himself and others second chances at happiness.

A moving novel about three people who find their way back from loss and loneliness to a different kind of happiness. Arthur, a widow, meets Maddy, a troubled teenage girl who is avoiding school by hiding out at the cemetery, where Arthur goes every day for lunch to have imaginary conversations with his late wife, and think about the lives of others. The two strike up a friendship that draws them out of isolation. Maddy gives Arthur the name Truluv, for his loving and positive responses to every outrageous thing she says or does. With Arthur’s nosy neighbor Lucille, they create a loving and unconventional family, proving that life’s most precious moments are sweeter when shared.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
I think the cover of this book is very pretty but there's nothing about it that I love. It's simple and it depicts the main character. Which is interesting.

The Story:

An older man makes a friend with a lost teenage girl in a cemetery where he talks to the gravestones and spends the day next to his wife's grave.

Overall:

I got this book trough NetGalley. I think I picked it because the summary sounded like it was going to be a nice book to read. Especially since I was having trouble with the books I was reading at the time. I enjoyed reading this book. I adored Truluv and Sunshine and Lucille.

Arthur is such a kind-hearted man. He cares about the people around him so much. From a lonely high school girl who just found out she was pregnant to his neighbor who recently lost the love of her life, despite only being with him for a few days. He even let them into his home. Letting Maddy live with in exchange for cleaning and cooking and Lucille who felt that her house no longer made her happy.
And even if his wife had passed long ago he still managed to make the time every day to go and visit her grave and talk to her. Those scenes were so bittersweet.

I appreciated the writing style Elizabeth had in this book as well as her lovely well-rounded characters. For me, this book was such a fast read that even I was surprised with how fast I finished it.

What I said on GoodReads:
This is the prettiest book I have read so far. It's the story of an old man and an 18-year-old and how their friendship gives them a new look on life.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
I adore this book cover. Though I wish it went more towards the aesthetic side of camping or nature like the photos in Pinterest or Tumblr. Maybe it's because I thought it was a bit too bright. Maybe it's because I think the couple in the cover doesn't look good or who I imagined Phoenix and Callum to be.

The Story:

Phoenix's family is going bankrupt and in an effort to try and fix things her parents go on a family trip to stay at a summer camp till the know what to do next There Phoenix knowing the secret her parents are keeping she tries to separate herself from her already distant parents and meets camp counselor Callum. A boy who she begins to have feelings for.

Relationships:

Phoenix x Callum
They are so cute together. It's a kind of relationship where they don't really talk or spent that much time together at first but then they get closer till they have feelings for each other. And there also the aspect that they both live so far away from each other and they are graduating from high school soon so there was a lot at stake for them.
Still, summer was on full blast for them and after getting assigned a few trips in which they get to spend time together they come to know each other better.

Settings:

The camp was amazing. It made it sound like so much fun and I kept picturing this really beautiful place inside a beautiful forest with a gorgeous lake. I was so into this place.

There was also the scene with the bike and Callum's car at the end.

Overall:

The characters were good, the setting was great and the drama was interesting. There wasn't that much happening. Like I wish it was a bit more fun. By that, I mean a bit more dramatic. Yeah, there were disasters, and distress, and heartbreak but I somehow wanted more and I think that's why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

What I said on GoodReads:
I liked this book. It was such a good story about a girl going trough her own problems. A recent breakup, parents who keep the secret of not being able to keep the house, and the secret she keeps of wanting to go to a college far away.

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro | Book Review

A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes #1) by Brittany Cavallaro

Spoilers?
I don't think so.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title - A Study in Charlotte
By - Brittany Cavallaro
Publication - March 1st 2016 by Katherine Tegen Books
Format - Hardcover, 321 pages
Genre - Young Adult, Mystery, Retelling, Contemporary

The last thing Jamie Watson wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who has inherited not only Sherlock’s genius but also his volatile temperament. From everything Jamie has heard about Charlotte, it seems safer to admire her from afar.

From the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else. But when a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances, ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Jamie can no longer afford to keep his distance. Jamie and Charlotte are being framed for murder, and only Charlotte can clear their names. But danger is mounting and nowhere is safe—and the only people they can trust are each other.

A Study in Charlotte is the first in a trilogy.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
I'm in love with this cover. That dark navy blue background and the coral and bright blue designs on top are awesome. And I love that the design on the cover are specific scenes in the book.

The Story:

The great-great-great grandchildren of the famous Sherlock Holmes and John Watson meet and come together after a murder happens in their prep school.

Relationships:

Charlotte x James
They have the same back and forwards that every other Sherlock and Watson character played on tv or the movies. But with them they are younger and Charlotte is a girl so it's cool that there wasn't much change n how Watson treated her than his classic version.

Family Dynamics:
As for both Charlotte and Watson’s family.
I decided to talk abut both their families together because I don't have much to say about them.
Charlotte's family was fucked up How do you force your children to train since they were kids like that. I don't know much about the original Sherlock Holmes family but that should be a 'once you're an adult you decide' sort of situation. I mean, look how messed up she ended up being. Sure she's a brilliant person and all but she's done drugs ruined a man's life and is in constant danger.
On the other hand, Watson's family was a peach. Yeah, his parents divorced and his dad remarried and had kids but he still loves and cares about him so much. He wasn't forced into being what his ancestor was or he didn't make himself go down that path by stalking the Holmes'. It just happened. They became friends.

Settings:

There were places I was curious about. Like the Lab and Watson's dad's house but other than that I didn't find any other place much interesting. They school seemed cool and all but it wasn't that described nor did the characters pass trough it as much. I don't even remember if they took classes.

Overall:

I thought this was going to be a fun read. But it wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. Yeah, there was a lot of classic Sherlock feel but somehow it wasn't the same. And I liked that. It didn't feel like all the other Sherlock Holmes retellings.

via GIPHY

I did think about Elementary because Watson is played by Lucy Lu mostly because instead of Sherlock it's Charlotte.

I didn't really know what else to say because like always I let too many days pass since I finished reading the book.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.

Another simple photograph cover from Kasie West. I love it though.
As to why the couple on the cover are on a bridge is beyond me.

The Story:
Charlie is the kind of girl who grew up with three oder brothers and a cop as her single dad. So she grew up not knowing how to put on makeup or wear dresses. And then theres her next door neighbor who spends most his time at her house hanging out with her btothers.
And after a night pent talking to himm alone she develops feelings for him.

Relationships:

Charlie x Branden
With Branden being best friends with Charlie's brothers Branden had always been around Charlie. But Charlie didn't think of him romantically. It wasn't till they started sneaking out at night and talking to each other trough a fence. They started to tell each other about what was going on with them , till keeping secrets from each other.

Overall:
I really wish I had written this review when I finished reading the book, but sadly I did not. So I don’t remember much of the things I wanted to say here.

I liked that this book told the story of a tomboy and how it was that she grew up like that. Having to grow up surrounded by older brothers and her dad who was a cop made sense. Because you kind of imagine that barbecues were filled with her brother's friends and her dad's coworkers.

I liked that shop she had to work in to pay her speeding tickets. Because it softened her and how it also made her see that she could be girly and comfortable with wearing makeup, though not a lot, and with wearing flowy clothes as well as t-shirts and jeans. And that she could also make friends that weren't just guys.

I liked this book a lot and wish there were books for her brother's stories with their girlfriends since I liked this world and this family.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
The cover is so intricate ad beautiful. With tiny buildings in bright lovely colors like the building in the book. And the characters with their partners. This is just perfect.
It kind of reminds me of the covers for

The Story:
Fallon goes into Zita's Love CharmShop to get her fortune. But is devastated when she finds out that her fortune is that she will never find love. Along with other unfortunate people who are in her high school, they try to figure out just who the mysterious Zita is.

Relationships:
There were more than one couples and relationships in this book but I will only talk about one of them.

Fallon x Sebastian
These two are incredibly cute. They both are unfortunate with their fortunes from Zita's. And they gravitate towards each other sharing things they don't share with other characters. My points that they are great and... yeah.

Settings:
I almost never like every setting I a book but I did with this one. The entire town is wonderful. The town sounds beautiful. Like its set in an Italy/Venice looking place, The school sounds cool. Yeah, I just really like this Love Fortunes and Other Disasters world.

Overall:
This book is perfect.

I adored the main characters as well as every other character. Fallon was very cool. First of all, her name is awesome, Fallon Dupree. And then she's just out the doing her very best despite what gets thrown at her. And Sebastian is just the best. Yeah, he comes off as a jerk and a womanizer but as you keep reading you learn to like him. Or at least I did.

There are the fantasy elements in the story that fit in perfectly. With things like fortunes that define your future love life and Cupid and spells. And I loved that in this book so much that I really want to continue the series and read the second book, Love Charms and Other Catastrophes.

And that end. Wow, that ending. Please read this book and love it like I have.

Edith grows up in her big sister Vivienne's shadow. While the beautiful Viv is forced by the girls' overbearing mother to compete in child beauty pageants, plain-looking Edith follows in her father's footsteps: collecting oddities, studying coins, and reading from old books.

The Rating :

My Review:

My review in a gif. Which equals 3 stars.

I want to say that this was sent to me for review from publisher and that, as all my reviews, this one is full of my honest opinions.

The Cover:
Although they say never judge a book by it's cover I believe the cover should represent what the book is going to be like or at least some aspect of it.
The cover of this book is simple but with a white, almost silver or pearl, unicorn it makes it look interesting. That certainly was the thought I had when I got it on my hands.

The Story:
Two sisters who grew up very different. The older sister, Vivianne, grew up under her mother's control and her father's artistic talent. While she was put into pageants and beauty competitions her sister, Edith hanged out with her father. Going to garage sales and junkyards in search of valuables they could repurpose.

Relationships:
There are a couple of pairing in this book but I decided not to talk about them since I didn't really consider them good, healthy or complete couples.

Family Dynamics:
As for Edith's family.
Her father was a tortured artist, a good father, and a cheater.
Her mother used to want to be an actress (??) but she ended up putting all that onto her daughter's shoulders by putting her trough various pageants.
And she was messed up in the process by being left out.

I thought this family was messed up in general. There wasn't a single person in this family that ended up with a happy ending. They tore each other apart and didn't stay to patch things up.

Settings:
There was no place in this book that made me want to visit or even like it.

Overall:
I initially thought this book was going to have some kind of fantasy element, seeing as there's a unicorn on the cover. But I quickly noticed it didn't have anything magical or else.

It's just the story of a girl and her growing up in a family where she's the last person to notice things. How she's left out because her older sister has her father's admiration since she's a great artist and her mother's attention since she's beautiful and through her, she can fulfill her dream of being in beauty pageants.
That premise alone sounds pretty good. And I thought I would like this book or at least read it quickly. But I had problems reading it since it was slow in places and since I am an already slow reader plus I was going tough finals, I didn't read it fast enough. That along with the fact that I didn't like where the story was going and I had started disliking the main character, who is also the narrator made mo want to dnf this book.

I had said in my Goodreads review that:

I'm giving this 3 stars but it more like 2 and a half. I half disliked it, half enjoyed it.
I've learned that I don't like literary fiction books. Some of them are not my kind of books and I find myself getting annoyed or bored. This book did have things that I liked but I just couldn't like the main character and seeing as she was also the narrator it was a tough book to read through.
